PATRICIA SADLER
Patricia grew up in Selkirk and has lived in Berwickshire for over thirty years. The Borders and its landscape is the inspiration behind much of her work and its influence is ever present, from the atmospheric bands of colour in her landscapes to the crash of waves against rocks near St Abbs to the vibrant flowers taken from her garden placed centre stage in her still lifes.
"With my roots firmly in the Scottish Borders, I feel passionate about its richly colourful landscape, rolling hills, patchwork quilts of fields, sudden dark shapes of woodland, the River Tweed twisting and turning throughout. With all this, plus the dramatic headland of St Abbs, only a few miles away from where I live, I think I am very fortunate indeed, as I find our coastline, and the power and energy of the sea a compelling and ever changing subject".
Patricia paints in a free and fluid style using watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media, always searching for an emotional response which leads the mind beyond what the eye perceives.
Patricia studied from 1962-64 at Edinburgh College of Art before completing a three year course in Dress and Design at Queen Margaret College. After teaching fabric collage and creative embroidery and bringing up a family Patricia turned to painting full-time. Her work has been accepted by the Scottish Society of Women Artists, The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Scottish Artists and Artist Craftsmen. Patricia's paintings have featured in many solo exhibitions in both Scotland and England and her work is widely collected.
