FIONA MILLAR
Fiona lives and works in the Borders and is based at the WASPS Studios in Selkirk. With two sisters attending art college and an art dealer father Fiona has a strong background in art and it was her family who inspired her to take up painting. She is entirely self-taught and produces a varied body of work that has gained her a considerable following in recent years. Fiona regularly takes part in exhibitions around Scotland and her recent solo show at the Gullane Art Gallery was the gallery's first exhibition to completely sell-out, proving that Fiona's paintings are becoming highly collectible.
Fiona's floral and still life pictures, often featuring flowers in a highly stylised vase, have an Art Deco feel to them and are similar in style to works from the 1930s. As such they are instantly recognisable as pieces by Fiona and she has developed a style that is unlike that of any other artist working today. Alongside her still lifes, Fiona also paints rolling landscapes that recall idyllic pastures and are influenced by the hills and countryside of Galloway, often featuring her trademark black and white cows.
