MICHAEL EWART

Michael grew up in the village of Felton in Northumberland and has spent much of his life immersed in the Northumbria countryside. Michael has been painting since he was a small boy and takes great pleasure from putting paint to canvas, an enjoyment that is instantly shared by the viewer.

It was originally the countryside around him that inspired his work and he created landscapes from the rolling Northumbria hills. Latterly Michael's work has taken on a greater variation and inspiration comes from observing people and situations on his travels around Europe. He enjoys focusing on figurative pieces, portraying people in everyday situations such as sitting in a cafe, waiting for a train or admiring art in a gallery. Painting exclusively in oils, Michael produces incredibly charming paintings, full of character and interest, with an almost nostalgic feel to them as if they are harking back to a bygone era. The subtle colours and tones enable him to convey the mood and feelings of a particular place and we get a glimpse into the lives and characters of those that pass by.

After spending thirty years teaching Michael is now able to concentrate fully on his painting and he has become a collectable and popular artist, regularly exhibiting in galleries throughout the U.K. including the Leith Gallery, the Red Rag Gallery and the Flat Cat in Lauder.
