KATE DONOHOE

Kate was born in 1974 and spent her early years in Ayrshire, most of them in Troon.  She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1996 with a BA (Hons) in Art and Design and worked for several years in the antiques trade before becoming a full-time artist.  Kate operated her own studio in Troon until the birth of her first child in 2004.  During this time she mainly worked by commission, with the majority of her clients requesting portraits of animals or children, and she won many admirers for her ability to capture the essence and likeness of her subject.
 
Following the birth of her first son Kate continued to accept a limited number of commissions for portraits.  However, for the last five years she has devoted most of her energies to her children and to widening the scope of her art to encompass still life and urban landscapes.
 
Kate now lives in Haddington with her husband Alan and their two boys Callum and Andrew. With her children now approaching full-time education Kate is able once again to concentrate on furthering her career as an artist. She is currently working on a series of urban landscapes on the theme of 'Edinburgh after Dark' which explore the effect of colour, light and reflection on the structures of the capital.
