- 20TH CENTURY WORKS OF ART
ANDRIY YALANSKYI
Born in Kiev in 1959, Andriy Yalanskyi is known as the youngest recipient of the "Honoured Artists Of Ukraine" title (1998). This remarkably versatile painter graduated from State Art Lyceum in 1977 and from the Ukrainian Academy of Fine Arts in 1984, where he still lectures today. A member of The Association of Ukrainian Artists since 1989 he has taken part in many national and international exhibitions.
Yalanskyi has participated in around 40 mixed shows in the UK since 1997 and has also held several solo shows. His work is held in the world-renowned Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the National Museum of Ukrainian Art (Kyiv) and in several other state museums as well as in private collections in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Belgium, Poland and Sweden.
Extract from Andriy Yalanskyi: the Monet of Ukraine by Ann Kodicek
'It is not hard to see how Andriy Yalanskyi came to be an Honoured Artist of Ukraine. He has an assured grasp of the techniques of painting and an inborn eye for the quintessence of a subject. These qualities are offset by an unerring colour register and a masterly way with sunlight.
Yalanskyi is not trying to find an art that is new. He aims, through traditional means, to see anew each subject that he selects. Every picture sings with freshness. The vibrancy of his palette gives his works a brilliance that almost dazzles and a texture that you want to touch'.
