FOUR ARTISTS, ONE CITY: AN EDINBURGH STORY

1ST AUGUST TO 30TH SEPTEMBER 2011

Four young artists take us on a personal journey into the heart of Edinburgh, exploring the city's many different sides with a variety of media and an eye for innovation.

This specially commissioned exhibition brings together four artists with a strong connection to Edinburgh and takes a fresh look at a city often described as one of the most beautiful in Europe. Each artist will be working in a different medium - photography, ink, etching and pencil - with the aim of producing a varied and eclectic body of work that will shed new light on a familiar subject. The exhibition will explore what Edinburgh means personally to the artists involved, with each focusing on an area of the city that they find fascinating or intriguing whilst challenging the traditional, castle-dominated view of Edinburgh to open up its many other faces.

Zanna Wilson, one of Scotland's most exciting young artists, lived in Edinburgh for many years and, as well as her usual landscapes, creates wonderfully atmospheric cityscapes using ink on paper. Caroline Hepburne-Scott is best known for her drawings of wildlife but for this exhibition she will be focusing on city streets and landmarks in pencil and charcoal. Cat Outram has been producing Edinburgh-themed etchings for a number of years and will be presenting work from two recent series; 'Steps' finds beauty in the vertiginous steps of the New Town while 'Parks' looks at some of the city's many green areas including Braidburn Park. Photographer Annabel Illingworth is a long-time resident of Edinburgh and her striking images of the city from its rooftops perfectly compliment the other works on show.

The exhibition will be on view at Henderson's from 1st August to 30th September:

94 Hanover Street, Edinburgh EH2 1DR.

Opening Hours: 8am - 10pm Monday to Saturday, 11am - 4pm Sundays (August only)

LOST AT SEA BY AMY BERNAYS

30TH JANUARY TO 13TH FEBRUARY 2009

British-born artist Amy Bernays lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She has exhibited widely in London and California. This is her first exhibition in Scotland and the opening exhibition for Art Amatoria.

For this series Amy has revisited one of her most inspiring subjects: 'I am fascinated by the play of light on water. I first got lost in the fast flow of rivers and streams that trickle off Dartmoor and carried this with me to California. I like the contemplative quality of water, its intensity and movement. My water paintings are a meditation on life.'
